Littlehampton & Climping

Littlehampton

Spots at Littlehampton include the River Arun, Climping Beach to the West and Littlehampton Town beach.

The River Arun is noted for some good catches of Flounders, Eels, Mullet and Bass of various sizes. Various other species have and will venture into the River at the lower stretches.

The tide is the River can be extremely strong at times and short casting and heavy weights can be used to combat this during this period.

Boat fishing trips set out daily from the Town and the Kingsmere Reef offers some of the best Black Bream and Bass fishing in the county.

Climping

Climping beach produces good numbers of Bass throughout the year, Stingrays in the summer along with Mullet, Smoothhounds, Silver Eels and other small species.  King Rag and crab are the favoured baits for Stingers.

The Beach does suffer from erosion and shingle replacement happens regularly. The seabed is made up of sand and rocks and after storms, large areas of clay can be exposed. Some beaches are known to be restricted due to nesting birds.

Weed can often be a problem here at times especially on the bigger tides.

The main access to Climping beach is via Climping Street which has a Car Park and Street parking next to the beach itself.

Littlehampton Beach

The town’s main beach is mainly Sand and can produce catches of Bass, Eels, Flounders, and Dogfish throughout the year with Whiting, Rockling and occasional codling in the winter. After a good blow Slipper Limpets can be washed up and do provide good bait.

Beaches can be busy during the summer and Pay and Display parking is available both in car parks and on the road.
